During the week of Nov. 18-24, 2013, Hawaii Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunken driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
During the week of Nov. 18-24, 2013, Hawaii Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunken driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; Puna and South Hilo, 7 each; and South Kohala, 1.
So far this year, there have been 1,189 DUI arrests compared to 1,332 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.7 percent.
There have been 1,193 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,329 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.2 percent.
So far this year, there have been 24 official traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared to 36 during the same period last year, a decrease of 33.3 percent.
To date, 13 of those fatalities have been linked to impaired driving: five to drugs; two to alcohol; and six, a combination of both.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
